The 30 Minute Bullshit Conversation I Had With Myself
Yesterday I had planned to go for a walk. And yet…I spent 30 minutes avoiding it.
You know the voice: “You don’t have to”, “It won’t matter if you skip it”, “You can do it later”. My mind had a full blown argument ready to go. It sounded reasonable and very convincing. It always does.
But then there was my body…underneath all the noise. My body was saying, “We’re going”.
Most people think it’s about motivation or discipline or getting in the mood.
It’s not. It’s about which voice you’re choosing to follow.
THE WALK WAS NEVER THE POINT
The walk wasn’t the hard part. The hard part was the decision before the walk, knowing I didn’t feel like it and doing it anyway. That’s the whole game.
In that moment, that’s where your identity is built. Not when it’s easy. Not when your pumped. When you don’t feel like it and you do it anyway.
The walk wasn’t the win. The win was overriding the resistance and choosing, “I’m the kind of person who does this anyway”.
That’s identity.
WHY PEOPLE STAY STUCK
Your mind is wired for comfort, familiarity and efficiency. Your body knows what it needs to feel alive, regulated and well. When you’re out of alignment, your mind will win most of the time. Not because it’s right. Because it’s louder than your body.
People will say they want change. They want better health, better relationships, a different life. But they keep choosing comfort in those small moments. They keep listening to the same internal bullshit that talks them out of things.
And they wonder why nothing shifts. You don’t get a new life with an old identity running the show.
WHAT IDENTITY IS
Identity isn’t what you say. It’s what you actually do.
In the moments when no one’s watching, when you’re feeling tired, when you can’t be bothered and it’s easier to opt out.
That’s who you are. Everything else is just talk.
You’re not stuck because you don’t know what to do.
You’re stuck because a part of you is still choosing the easier option in those moments. Different situation…same pattern.
SO WHAT DO YOU DO?
Start noticing it. Catch the moment when your mind starts negotiating and interrupt it.
Choose differently.
Enough to start proving to yourself: “I’m not that version of me anymore”.
The walk was worth it. Once I got out there, I felt better. The real win was not buying my own bullshit.
IF YOU’RE READY TO ACTUALLY SHIFT THIS
This is exactly the work I do in my identity coaching and bridging work.
We look at the patterns that keep you opting out and we change them at the level they’re actually happening.
If you’re done with your own excuses running the show, book a free insight call.
We’ll discuss what you want to change and how I can help you rewire the patterns driving your behaviour.
Life is too short and too magical to stay stuck where you don’t want to be.
